For Sale : Vintage Globes

I've been working on cleaning up and clearing out the ol' apartment recently. I've decided to sell a few things that have been gathering dust, such as a couple of these vintage globes.

If you're interested, I've listed them on craigslist.

Yard Sale Update

So I made about $150 (fist pump!) at my yard sale and (double fist pump!) I got rid of lots of stuff/crap. I did NOT, however, even put my mannequin outside. I was having second thoughts the night before and realized that I still luff her too much. I also realized that I had never done a "big head photo" shoot with her! Say what?! Remedied:

Weekend Plans #1: Holiday DEPART-ment!

It's Holiday DEPART-ment time! This 3-day craft extravaganza is taking place this weekend. Here are some key details:
at AV-aerie (formerly open-end gallery)
2000 W. Fulton #310 (third floor), Chicago
Friday, Nov 30, 7-11p
Saturday + Sunday, Dec 1+2, 11a-5p
cash only/atm onsite

Not only will I be shopping there for unique gifts but I'll be selling stuff too. For the first time in a year, Love Lights are back on the shelves. "Satin Chains" is still available (a big pink Yay!) but "Wild Roses" has been sold (sorry!).

Love Lights = $12 each

Mama Cardboard has joined the craft movement. She's adding in a couple knitted grocery bags:

Grocery Bags = $20 each

...and super sweet felted bowls in four sizes and a multitude of colors:

Felted bowls = $6 - $18

Mama C also makes a mean pair of fingerless wool mitts and retro-lovin' legwarmers (see below, left).

Mitts = $14/pair; Legwarmers = $16/pair; Alison Rose T's = $15 - $30

Also, there's a good chance Alison Rose will be sending me some T-shirts to sell too (see above, right). I'm patiently staring at the mailbox (fingers crossed!) for her box of merch to arrive.

For more info on how DEPART-ment works or to take part in the next one, read this great little interview with Craft Magazine.

* For the first person (other than Porcelain) to find my head in this photo, I promise to donate $10 (or a box of nails) to Habitat for Humanity in your name. Happy hunting!

This ceiling light is adorable, in a grandpa-kind-of-way. It makes me want to eat oatmeal and read the funnies.

You too?

Buy PrairieMod

Sullivan Chicago Stock Exchange Elevator Grille, $30

PrairieMod, one of our local design blogger BFFs, just announced that they've opened an online store! They're starting small but continuously on the hunt for merchandise that promotes the PrairieMod lifestyle. Right now, they've got the standard t-shirts & coasters but they've also got these mini-screens that we just love! Each laser-cut screen (available in cherry or maple) measures 8.5" x 4" and is the perfect ornament to hide a computer screen or cast shadows on the wall next to your favorite lamp. Such a simple idea and so beautifully executed. Click over and check out the goods!

Japanese Stylized Leaves, $30

Bonus Bone: Lake House

I remember catching crawdads in the shallow water by the boat house. I remember running down the dock, hoping to top the distance of my cousin's dive. I once cut my foot open on a buoy and had trudge back up to the house as my father's giant shoe filled up with my blood. A small part of me grew up in this New Hampshire lake house and now it's time to pass the torch.

The house that has been in my father's family for at least 60 years is finally up for sale. Located in idyllic Alton, NH (think lobster rolls and summer tans), it's settled on a prime 275 feet of water frontage on the picturesque Lake Winnipesaukee. Being from the midwest, I didn't make it up there nearly as often as my east coast cousins but I'm sad to see it go nonetheless.

Pink & Green Bath

In terms of design, some simple cosmetic upgrading could be all it needs. Yet I hope the new owners don't go too crazy and gut the whole thing, deetzing it into some modern travesty. It's too cozy, too charming, and that bathroom wallpaper is just too great.

Bedroom (the tiniest)

It's got 3 bedrooms (with all the fun pitched roof angles), 2 bathrooms, a fantastic sun porch, and a boat house. These days, it's against the law to build a boat house on Lake Winnipesaukee so to find one that's been grandfathered in is a rarity. The price doesn't seem too outrageous, especially for all those memories, and did I happen to mention the lake...?

For these reasons, I, Cardboard, declare this a Design Boner.

Estate Sale!

For Sale

A friend of mine recently announced that he's selling his one-bedroom condo in Uptown. In hopes of simplifying his move and his life, he's decided to throw a doozy of an estate sale. It sounds like he's selling pretty much everything: from ornate artwork to disco CD's. He's a gallery owner with a taste for the finer things so I would imagine he'll have a lot of art, antiques, and all things gilded.

If you're not really in the market for someone else's furniture but, rather, looking for some place to put your own, you might want to use this opportunity to sneak in and check out the condo.

Estate Sale Details:
4164 N. Clarendon Ave #1N

Thursday, May 24 - Saturday, May 26
10am - 3pm

Cash or charge

Happy shopping!
