Wish List : Eames Rocker

Fiberglass shell rocker, at Modernica

Earlier this month Hardwood and I celebrated our 4th Wedding anniversary! We celebrated by enjoying a leisurely morning and a late brunch. We then spent the afternoon browsing around a couple of antique stores in our neighborhood and later treated ourselves to an amazing meal at
Green Zebra.

At one antique store, Hardwood spotted an Eames Rocker and proclaimed his love. I knew we were meant to be together!! We checked out the price tag and were stunned to see $1600!!! WTF?! Seriously?! We grumbled, but then I remembered that Modernica allows you to build your own chair. So when we got home from our walk we started messing around with the shell, runner, and leg colors. Our favorite combination is the moss shell, zinc legs and walnut runners. Maybe on our next anniversary we'll get this!

Bonus Bone: Cameron's House

Remember this guy?

Well, his house is for sale.

"THE BEN ROSE HOME-site of the famous movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, cantilevered over the ravine, these two steel and glass buildings, which can never be duplicated, have incredible vistas of the surrounding woods. This is a unique property designed by A. James Speyer and David Haid, both notable architects of the 20th Century."

We assume that, for the 2.3 million dollar asking price, all the damage from that Ferrari free-flight has been fixed.

If the views and structure aren't enough to grab you, just realize that you'd be able to make pancakes and check your mail in the very space where this lovable ticking time bomb finally let it all out:

For these reasons, I, Cardboard, declare this a Design Boner.

A Blue Blogger

So it's only been one day in Worktown without Porcelain and I already miss her. I missed her after only 48 minutes! Invoices and PO's just aren't the same without her happy, shiny (I mean matte) face around.

So I'll just pacify myself with the thought that she is having the SUPER BEST TIME EVER on her rented cottage getaway. And she'll undoubtedly come bouncing home with lots and lots of photos. But, in case you all need a visual to attach to my anguish, this is what Porcelain looks like in Michigan:

[Insert melancholy sigh here]

Bonus Bone: Summer Vacation reading

Porcelain's reading vacation reading list

Hardwood and I are jetting off tomorrow for a week of chillaxing around Lake Michigan (on the Michigan side). I love laid-back vacations cause I can spend of a good chunk of my time with my nose stuck in a book and not feel one ounce of guilt.

For these reasons, I, Porcelain, declare this a Design Boner.

Day of Gracious Living

Today is Day of Gracious Living. If you attended (or are attending) Kalamazoo College, you know what I'm talking about. SOUTH HAVEN! If you're in the dark, it's a day when classes are canceled and most students head to Lake Michigan for some sun-filled fun.

If you can't skip classes or work today (like me and Cardboard), at least treat yourself to a nice gin & tonic! Drinks on design boner!

Sex & The Settee

Okay, so on the well-meaning but evil advice of a close friend, I joined up with a free online dating service. On a side note, I have since "hidden" my profile because the onslaught of American flag leather jackets and motorcycles freaked me the @!&! out. But, before my chaste retreat, I dabbled enough to find a discouraging bit of info:

Men's TOP TEN Favorite/Least Favorite Conversation Topics

PlentyofFish.com, being the helpful little data engine that they are, decided to enlighten me with these two lists of things men do/don't like to talk about on dates. Antiques, ladies, comes in at #6 on the I-Don't-Understand-a-Word-You-Just-Said list. Gardening (on same list) is at #9.

However, #3 on the Happy-to-Chat list is "Hobbies/Interest in General" and #4 is "Hopes and Aspirations." So - do you see where I'm going? - what if it happens that one's hopes/dreams/hobbies just so happen to include antiques and the desire to play in the dirt?

I am so (un)screwed.

And, just because I know you're all dying to read the complete lists, here they are:

National Work That Bike Day

Want a Bike - Double, by vintagelove at etsy

Dear Commuter Polluters-

We just read that May is National Bike Month...and this week is National Bike Week...and tomorrow is Bike to Work Day! Unfortunately, both Porcelain and I have tomorrow off (strike that unfortch) so we will be keeping a lo'zone profile by hanging around in our rompers, drinkin' coffee barefoot, no lights on.

To all you good decent workers who are hitting the streets in the AM, you should do this. If you don't have a bike, why not try a bus or a train or a walk (gasp!) or, in the very least, a carpool? The Earth and your HOT BOD will soon thank you.

Many green kisses-
The Family Bone

And the Winners Are...!

We wanted to hear back from our two winners of Domino: The Book of Decorating before making the big announcement. If you didn't an email...sorry! But go ahead and congratulate these two:

liane66 and ArchitectDesign!

We're eager to check out Liane66's recommendation of Living a Beautiful Life. ArchitectDesign simply loved Domino yet he also happens to have his own designerly blog, which we've already bookmarked. We're happy these prize books are going to such deserving designers!

Again, thanks to Nina Schwartz for allowing us to delight our readers with gifts. We hope they keep the Domino dream alive by writing in with their future projects (wink wink).

This is My Love on Steroids

Triple Chocolate Caramel Apple, at Mrs. Prindable's

Dang it. I just found the perfect Mother's Day present and it's one day late.

These decadent apple orbs serve 8-10 people. 8-10! I do believe that, had I planned ahead and actually bought her one, this is what Mama Cardboard would have called an "apple huge."

Hope all you foxy mothers had a great holiday weekend!

Bonus Bone: Pigeon Toe Ceramics

Small tripod pot, at Pigeon Toe Ceramics

Mini creamer, at Pigeon Toe Ceramics

I'm basking in the glorious warm and sunny weather here in Chicago. It's making me dream of mornings on porch with a cup of coffee, white summer dresses, sexy rompers, cute sandals and toes in the sand. The sweet porcelain wares by Pigeon Toe Ceramics just scream summer to me. The white porcelain exteriors are pure white sand beaches and the colorful interiors are sticky, sweet popsicles.

For these reasons, I, Porcelain, declare this a Design Boner.

Playing BANG!

BANG!, at Amazon

Have any of y'all ever played BANG!? If so, you will smile and nod as you finish reading this post. If not, well, hitch up yer holster there and git to it.

This Italian card game is - how do you say - hilarious. BANG! can be played with anywhere from 4 to 8 people but please make sure you play at least one hand before passing around the cocktails because this game can get confusing.

In an odd international twist, BANG! is a card game about the Wild West (think Doc Holliday and Jesse James) but it's Italian in origin so each card is translated. Just as with the classic French car racing game, Mille Bornes, each player is given the chance to butcher another language. I don't want to get too deep into the details but the basic point (as Sheriff, Deputy, Outlaw, or Renegade) is to eliminate the competition by taking shots at or BANG!ing your opponents. Do you see what kind of fun this can lead to...?

What makes this game special, and worth all the rulebook consultation, is the oft-taboo phrases you'll find spilling from your mouth. Favorites include: "I wanna BANG! Mom" and "You can't BANG! me 'cause of the Appaloosa" or just plain "Indians!"

Yard Sale Update

So I made about $150 (fist pump!) at my yard sale and (double fist pump!) I got rid of lots of stuff/crap. I did NOT, however, even put my mannequin outside. I was having second thoughts the night before and realized that I still luff her too much. I also realized that I had never done a "big head photo" shoot with her! Say what?! Remedied:

More top model hilarity HERE.

6 & 7

I'm still getting through those vacation shots but the blog moves on. This mosaic is one week old and our current 6/7 grouping will be posted tomorrow. If you care less about exact dates and more about super photography, visit flickr to see the entire 6 & 7 collection.

Alert: Yard Sale!

Attention! My condo building is holding a multi-unit yard sale tomorrow...er...today! Some of items I am contributing are unused IKEA wares, a Breadman, and a very-close-to-my-heart-and-I-might-cry-if/when-she-sells reclining mannequin (see above).

If you want to come out, Saturday between 9am-2pm, HERE are the details. See you there, thrifters.

Bonus Bone: Moab Mug Trees

I am still busy editing, photoshopping, and uploading photos from my recent trip to the Grand Canyon. Stunning photos, "like such as:"

You can see more HERE yet you should wait until I've gone through them all. I have, however, put up a little group of pics taken at one of our first souvenir pit-stops.

Souvenirs shops are terrible. Most of the stuff is Crap (capital C): cheesy, typical, made somewhere other than where the vacationer stands. But, comb through these places enough, and you can find some authentic gems. Case in point, these mugs and mug trees that I discovered in Moab, Utah.

The mugs, hand-glazed and available in any number of colors, are easily corralled on a their own little tree stand. They were Mad (capital M) expensive - this yellow set cost about $290 - but they were sweet, special, attractive.

Even Bamboo, who is the QUeen (capital QU) of spotting and eradicating worthless crap, loved 'em.

For these reasons, I, Cardboard, declare this a Design Boner.
