Thrifty Christy

My local Salvation Army actually has one of these upside-down Christmas trees for sale!

It's unadorned (you must provide photo ornaments of your own grandkids) and I don't know how much it costs. Yet this is the first time I've seen one of these in-person and, letmetellyou, it is green and it is crazy.

But you must hurry on over if you want to check it out. For in the world of discount stores, the good stuff (talkin' to you, DJ Play Station) is gone in a blink but coordination of color is forever.

White Velvet & Unwhite Fur

Ooooooh, Velvet Grommet curtains in white (Ivory, really). They're so luxurious and decadent and ON SALE.

But then I remember that I've got a few of these guys at home...

Cardboard's Bird & Mille

...so my wintry white windowscape would end up looking something like this:

Flutter Me This

West Elm just called me up to say that they're offering FREE SHIPPING on their new line of Vintage Butterfly bedding. My first thought of, Yay - FREE SHIPPING!, was quickly replaced by, ...Ick - and on such an horrible product!

But...wait...I think I like it. I can't tell! I flit between thinking they're too cutesy to declaring them a risky but wonderful graphic success.

Are you too strangely attracted to this Butterfly bedding?
Yes! They've flown straight into my heart!
[shrug]
Maybe if it was the larval stage...
Their wings are whisper-quiet but their UGLY is loud as hell.

Price Chop

Wood Lamp, at Delia's

I "bonus boned" this Wood Lamp from Delia's a few weeks ago. There remains no image of the strange "forest scene on shade interior," even after I emailed them to ask them to show a photo OR to comp me a lamp so I could shoot one myself. I have not (yet) received a response...

~But~

They dropped the price! The lamp, once $39, is now listed at $18.99.

Clearance Curtain

Macy's emailed to alert me of their two-day $.99 shipping deal (online code: 99cents). I skimmed the clearance housewares and found this sweet and Springy shower curtain. It's a little bit granny and I would nix those terrible towels but I like the soft colors and pattern.

The best part of said curtain is that it's marked down from the original $29.99 to a bargain...$29.97. I feel futile just typing this...

Bonus Bone: Wood Lamp at Delia's

Wood Lamp, at Delia's

I'm always slightly shocked when I find something Delia's that isn't full of glitter or girlish indifference but this little lamp is, like, grown-up. The Wood Lamp, with its simple shape and chic palette, would never give away the fact that it came from a teeny-bopper catalog. There's only one part of the description that makes me nervous: "forest scene on shade interior." Like...um...?

~Whatever~

Lamp shades are easy to switch out. And seeing as how this lamp is selling for the low price of $39, you can buy a new shade and still have allowance left over to grab those hot seats to the Jonas Brothers.

For these reasons, I, Cardboard, declare this a Design Boner.

INSTANT DISCOUNT! Enter code XTRA20 at checkout at get 20% off your Delia's order! This deal is only good through Monday 1/26 so hurry it up.

Domino Visits Chicago!

We love Domino magazine and now we love them a little bit more. They're venturing away from their NYC home to come to Chicago and give us a weekend full of design fun. Domino Design District 2008 is going to own Lincoln Park this weekend (June 7 & 8).

Saturday is packed with editor meet-ups and workshops - all open to the public and all FREE! I'm most looking forward to the flower arranging lesson at Jayson Home and Garden at 1pm. To see all the happenings, click
HERE.

The other nifty part of this event is that over 40 stores are offering special discounts all weekend long. Art Effect, Jonathan Adler, Lori's Shoes, LUSH...the list of stores and discounts continues HERE.

Visit the
Domino Design District site to download your shopping guide/map and we'll see you there!

Happy Earth Day! - (Now Git to Cleanin')

Porcelain and I celebrated Earth Day today by taking the train to work. Sure, we do that everyday and, no, neither of us have cars...Did you catch that? We're pro-green every day of the week. And riding the CTA daily deserves some aromatherapy.

So we went a little crazy on the Mrs. Meyer's website just now. We feel justified as it's an eco-conscious company making eco-conscious products and we all need to clean (even on the holidays). Here's what ended up in our "bucket:"

I've been stalking the new Basil scent at Whole Foods but they don't seem to carry it yet so I ordered me up some Dish Soap online. I need my dishes to smell like Caprese Salad. Need it.

I also picked up some Lavender Dryer Sheets because I just heard a naesty rumor that regular dryer sheets use animal fats to soften. The Mrs. Meyer's sheets contain a "vegetable-derived softening agent" and I bet they smell a whole field of flowers better than Jewel Brand.

Porcelain entered Geranium kingdom and rode off with some Surface Scrub, Shower Cleaner, and a giant tub of Hand Soap. It is Earth Day so she's working the refill angle (less packaging waste). Way to green it, Porce.

Lastly, Porcelain grabbed some Clary Sage Chamomile Litter Freshener. She's used it in the past and says it smells great but also helps to neutralize the peeps smell. Think I'll have to try some of that next time.

But we're not the only ones who can have this much fun buying cleaning supplies online. Right now Mrs. Meyer's is offering 30% off the entire order. Simply enter in coupon code DC30 at check out.
