IKEA's white flooring

Inspired by these photos to have white floors in your home?! I recently noticed that IKEA offers a couple of flooring options in the very Scandinavian-chic shade of white. For an ultra-sleek look go with the Markland. For a slightly more rustic vibe, choose the aptly named Tundra.

West Elm's modular coffee table

Modular coffee table, at West Elm

I've been unhappy with my coffee table since the second Hardwood and I carried it out the door of IKEA. It's my own dumb fault. While carrying the hulking box of particle board to the car trunk, my end slipped out of my hands and one of the corners was smashed in. The damage was relatively minor and it is probably something that only I see but it bugs me.

There are aspects of it that I do like: it's big and the perfect height for eating 98% of our meals off of. It's not easy to find these requirements in the style I gravitate towards. Most of them are residents of Chunk City, USA and Pottery Barned up the wazoo! The West Elm table seen above almost meets the size requirements that I want and I love the combination of rich wood and industrial metal. Plus Hardwood has given it the golden seal of approval.

Couch on the FLOR

I just received the most recent FLOR catalog and flipped through it, mostly out of courtesy, as I'm not currently in the market for carpet squares for the flo(o)r. But - lo and behold! - I found something I wasn't expecting: I fell in love with a couch in a carpet magazine. It's lovely!

From this angle, it's hard to tell if the structure of the sofa (loveseat?) is the perfect accompaniment to the Rock of Beef Bus. I quite simply adore the fabric. I'm a total sucker for nubby tweeds, in earth tones, that are also...[trifecta drumroll]...soft.

But now we have a predicament, one can buy the FLOR tiles HERE but who knows anything about that sofa? Do you think it's a store standard or a custom job? Um, Cost Plus? Room & Board? Anyone...?

Couch, Heroic

This (real) pic is from a (real) accident in North Hollywood last week. Rumor has it that the curbside couch cushioned the impact, allowing the driver to walk away totally unharmed.

This selfless act is just another reason to love abandoned furniture. That dirty and forgotten couch is truly a Good Sofaritan.
