New Year's Renovations

Happy New Year to all of you! We hope all of you find success, love, fulfillment, and comfortable socks in this new and sci-fizzle sounding decade. 2010 may sound like the future but the future is now.

Speaking of now, Porcelain and I are going to take a little blogging break. We've been Painting Walls Orange... for nearly four years and we are now - finally!- a little burnt out. We wish there was some kind of device that could put it all into perfect order but we think it's time for some major renovations.

But please don't worry that Design Boner will never get (it) up again. We're not worried! We will continue to post just not as often. This next month will find us powering brunching and, over Bloody Mary flights and rose petal butter, we will scale back, seek out the creative, and focus on what sets Design Boner apart.

If you have any thoughts on what direction this blog should take - what do you love? what do you love (not so much) - we're completely open to the feedback. We hope to have more figured out by the end of January. Until then, please feed yourself on our RSS so you don't starve yourself of wit and...

!...STAY TUNED...!

A Bath Tissue Issue

Frankenstein's Home Accents Line, at There, I Fixed It

Sometimes DIY just doesn't work...or doesn't look right, anyway.

If your shower is in this same situation, email me and I can send you at least 30 coupons to Bed Bath & Beyond.

Deadly Red

Happy karma is coming to me in a BIG way because, this weekend, I get to play host to the ever-astrological Miss Brig. I am wicked excited.

I DO plan on having my fridge fixed so keeping the nail polish and guac properly chilled shouldn't be a problem but I fear I have failed in the non-refrigeration department. If only - alas! - I had the foresight and wherewithal to snap up a set 7 Deadly Glasses.

2 bloggers + 1 night in Chicago / x bottles of red = 7+ sins. Easy.

And the Winners Are...!

We wanted to hear back from our two winners of Domino: The Book of Decorating before making the big announcement. If you didn't an email...sorry! But go ahead and congratulate these two:

liane66 and ArchitectDesign!

We're eager to check out Liane66's recommendation of Living a Beautiful Life. ArchitectDesign simply loved Domino yet he also happens to have his own designerly blog, which we've already bookmarked. We're happy these prize books are going to such deserving designers!

Again, thanks to Nina Schwartz for allowing us to delight our readers with gifts. We hope they keep the Domino dream alive by writing in with their future projects (wink wink).

Porcelain's Internet Adventure

Compubody Sock, by Sternlab

Tomorrow is a big day in design boner history...[drumroll]...

Porcelain is getting internet at home!

[cymbal crash]

Maybe now she will finally post her blog spot (once she figures out where it will be - exciting!). And gone are her days of shielding her internet cafe blog antics with a Compubody Sock. Just in time for summer!

Congrats, P, and welcome to the decade!

Authentic Human Experience

Thanks goes to A Browner Brown for showing us this achingly beautiful photo journal. Phillip Toledano's Days with My Father is sure to make you tear up at least once.

Expect things to be quiet around here today...

New Blogger on the Block: Strange Closets

I heart the internet!!

T8 from Strange Closets recently emailed Cardboard and me asking us to check out his new blog. I saw he had several posts about Andersonville and Edgewater (two neighborhoods on the north side of Chicago) and his profile mentioned he owned a two flat in Edgewater (my hood). After some emailing back and forth, turns out T8 and I live kitty corner from each other across our alleys! Small freakin' world!!!

Reasons why I love Strange Closets and you should too:

1. I thought I knew a lot about cool places around Chicago, but T8 has clued me into some pretty awesome places. Like here, here, here and here.

2. He has best taste in chairs! I direct you here, here, and here.

3. He's got style! Check out the amazing renovation on his 2 flat.

4. He's a good teacher and has some great posts on design movements, classic furniture, and designers.
