The bad (and the overstuffed): Cindy Crawford Hathaway love seat, at Wickes Furniture
This morning when I turned on the TV to check out the weather, I saw a commercial for Wickes Furniture featuring Cindy Crawford saying she designed a lined of furniture for them. Huh? Wait, huh? Cindy Crawford? Really?! Furniture?
On my commute into work, I had a brief moment of hope. Maybe after all those years of working with Todd Oldham on House of Style some good design sense rubbed off on her. Or would it be more like her acting career? Please don't make me relive the summer in high school when I worked at the movie theater and Fair Game came out. SHUDDER!

The more I thought about it, the more this line confused me. Who is this marketed towards? Women redecorating their living rooms who think Cindy Crawford is hot? Hmm, maybe not. Will telling your husband that Cindy designed this sofa sectional make him want to get it? I really have no idea, but either way Cindy really cannot wait to be part of your home.
Overall there are a LOT of over-stuffed, chunky, dark-stained, heavy things. So perhaps they are appealing to a certain male. There are a couple pieces that I actually thought was rather nice looking. My favorite piece is the rounded sectional couch. It seems very Hollywood Regency glam. So maybe a tiny part of Todd rubbed off on her.
I guess this line will always be a bit of a brain teaser for me. I know one thing for certain, Cardboard and I are definitely going to attend one of her personal appearances and ask her to sign our sofa!

Isn't her hubby an architect?
Well you were far more forgiving than I am. I saw the same commercial the other day and I thought everything looked hideous. The prints, the colors...everything. I'm so tired of these celebrities with no background in interior design (or perfume-making or fashion or, in Rihanna's case, umbrella design) being given tons of money to "create" a line of something when you know it's really made by a room full of people who have actually studied and/or worked for years to get where they are, only to see their creations in a store with Cindy Crawford's name slapped on them. However, in Cindy's case, I think she might have actually made many of the decisions herself because I can't imagine a real furniture designer creating anything this wrong. I mean really...what is that? Some kind of paisley/damask/stripe fabric on those pillows and cushions with FRINGE? And why did she think she'd spice it up by putting that mess on a plain brown frame? And is that MICROSUEDE? I'm sorry...I don't think I can continue this rant. I just need a moment to be alone.
pigtown, wikipedia says that he's a former model and owns a chain of lounges/bars.
ff-yeah i know that i totally let her off a bit too easily! i think i might have been still too dumbfounded by the fact that she's doing a line of furniture. and also i think that image of the nasty overstuffed loveseat with paisley/striped cushions speaks for itself. ugly is ugly!

Nice finds, layersofmeaning! Porcelain and I LURVE chaise lounges!
The guy who has done all her houses, though, is Michael S. Smith ...
When Cindy had her first baby, she wrote a book about babies. On talk shows she said she wrote it to let mother's know that it's okay for them to play with their babies. D'oh - like no one else had a baby before. But here's my experience with Wickes. Hope Cindy has chosen the right company.
I bought the set years ago and need to get same couch , where do I buy it from or where do I find it ? Thanks
