Design Discourse: Lo-Tech

I've been thinking lately about music systems. I don't have a great one. I have a boombox (old school), I have a laptop (weak), and I have a Zune (shut up, I know). I do not have stereo piped subtly into each room or even a stackable component system with GIANT speakers. But, it could be worse...

Stroll down memory lane as Porcelain & I discuss the musical methods that made us:

Porcelain:
Ha! I remember my parents got me a little boom box for Christmas one year and I was so disappointed in it 'cause it didn't have a record button. My way around that was to play the radio and record the song from a tape player, like this:

The recordings were all crappy and you could hear background noises and me shuffling around trying to be totally quiet. Hahhha! That was the best!

Cardboard:
Hahahhaa, I used to record songs with my pink boom box (which I still have). But - and this is the BEST part - I used to record them off the TV from some non-cable Saturday video show! Hahahahahahahahahahah...

Call us low-quality but never call us unoriginal. How did YOU used to do it?

Design Discourse: Framed Secretary

While neither of us feels strongly enough about this piece of furniture to turn this into a Design Debate, we still thought you might enjoy our email antics. We may not be snippy and aim below the belt but the dialogue is just as raw (and, of course, punctuation is ignored).

Design Discourse: Act 1
[polite applause]
Cardboard:
[what do you think of] this... ?

Framed Secretary, at West Elm
Porcelain:
i like it when it is open and being used as a desk. but closed up it looks a little top heavy. but overall i like it.

Cardboard:
haha, i totally agree. for some reason, when it's all closed up, it reminds me of those mooninite dudes from aqua team hunger pants

Porcelain:
hahahhahaa!!!! that would be hilarious if someone constructed a desk to look like the mooninites. the best!

Cardboard:
and check it out in this pic:

Cardboard:
it's totally stalking the pretty new couch! you can't see it in this photo but it's totally got a pistola right up in her ribcage. (haha, that bowl of moss balls even looks like a sombrero)

Porcelain:
hahaha!! it totally is stalking that couch!

Cardboard:
i've decided: i don't like it. i don't need to worry about my furniture planning a revolución!

Porcelain:
hahaha!!! or being a creepy stalker!!!

Cardboard:
