Binchotan coal water purifier (pitcher size), at DWRI read about these coal water purifiers in a Martha Stewart Living magazine earlier this year. I'm curious how well they work. (Anyone ever try them?)
We have a couple Brita pitchers at home and I always hate having to throw out the big plastic filters. At the end of the coal's life cycle, you can crush it up and mix it into your plant soil. So even though you won't be saving any money on these compared to the Brita filters, you might feel a tiny bit better about one less thing going into a landfill.
For this reasons, I, Porcelain, declare this a Design Boner.

Actually it's not that much more expensive, just inconvenient.
My brita filters are usually about $18-20 for 3, and they last 4-5 weeks. This is $25 and it lasts 12 weeks.
I just don't know how long they'll be available for.
Here here! I don't know how they work but it sure sounds friendlier to the earth.
